Grandma’s Marathon Renews Team USA Minnesota Sponsorship for 2018; Provides 10 Entries to Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon for Fundraiser

Minneapolis/St. Paul – Jan. 16, 2018 – Grandma’s Marathon announced it will renew its bronze sponsorship of Team USA Minnesota for 2018 and, as part of the partnership, will provide 10 entries for the sold-out Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon to use as a fundraiser.

The 42nd annual Grandma’s Marathon weekend is set for June 14-16 in Duluth, Minn., with both the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and Grandma’s Marathon to be held on Saturday, June 16.  The half marathon filled in early October with 7,500 runners; the marathon is still open and will close when it reaches 9,000 participants.

Runners who are interested in obtaining one of the 10 entries for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon can send an e-mail to Patricia Goodwin at pfgoodwin@teamusaminnesota.org or call 952-454-8876.  A contribution of $200 per entry would be made to Team USA Minnesota, which is a 501c3 nonprofit.  Runners who make the donation will then be sent a link so they can register online for the 2018 race, with no additional fees.

“We are so excited that Grandma’s Marathon has renewed its sponsorship of the Team USA Minnesota Distance Training Center,” said Patricia Goodwin, president and founder of Team USA Minnesota.  “We appreciate the confidence the organization has in our group and look forward to competing again up on the North Shore in the marathon, half marathon or in the Minnesota Mile in September.”

The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon starts at 6:15 a.m. followed by the marathon at 7:45 a.m. on a course that goes along the Lake Superior shoreline and finishes in downtown Duluth.

“Grandma’s Marathon is pleased to continue its support of Team USA Minnesota, a group that shares our mission of supporting and developing long distance runners right here in Minnesota,” said Shane Bauer, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon.  “Through our partnership, we can continue to raise awareness and build excitement for the sport as well as assist talented runners to train and compete at the highest level, from the mile up through the marathon.”
