Kevin Lewis to Compete in the USA 5k Championships in New York City Nov. 3; Four Athletes Coach Cross Country Teams this Fall; Danny Docherty Wins Cape Cod Half Marathon


Minneapolis/St. Paul – Oct. 30, 2018 – Team USA Minnesota’s Kevin Lewis will compete in the USATF 5k Championships in New York City on Nov. 3.  The championships are hosted by the New York Road Runners and will be held in conjunction with the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5k.  The men’s race begins at 8:30 a.m., the women will start at 8:35, and the Abbott 5k with all other runners goes off at 8:45 (all times Eastern).
Lewis has a best of 13:43 in the 5k.  During 2018, he has set personal bests in the half marathon, 15k and 10 mile distances, along with a 28:32 in the 10,000 meters for a first place finish at the Portland Track Festival last June.  This will be the 25-year-old’s first appearance at the USATF 5k road championships.
The course goes through the streets of Manhattan and ends in Central Park at the finish line of the TCS New York City Marathon, which will be held on Nov. 4.
Team USA Minnesota Coaches Cross Country
Four Team USA Minnesota distance runners coached cross country teams this fall ranging from the middle school level up through collegiate teams, as follows:
. Meghan Peyton – head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Augsburg University in Minneapolis.
. Emi Trost – assistant cross country coach at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul.
. Heather Kampf – head girls cross country coach at Apple Valley High School.
. Breanna Sieracki – assistant girls cross country coach for Wayzata Middle Schools, combining three schools.
In addition, Team USA Minnesota coach Chris Lundstrom is a volunteer boys and girls assistant cross country coach at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.
Cape Cod Half Marathon – Oct. 27
Danny Docherty won the Cape Cod Half Marathon and set a course record at the Falmouth, Massachusetts, race held on Oct. 27 in windy and rainy conditions on the Falmouth coastline of Nantucket Sound.  Docherty’s time was 1:07:38.  There were 1,180 participants in the race.
