- Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series will take place following the Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Waterfront Park at 10:30 a.m.
- Bassist, George Gekas, to take part in half marathon, running on behalf of Shatterproof
TAMPA, Fla./SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 2, 2018) – The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® is pleased to announce The Revivalists as this year’s headliner for the Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon. On Sunday, June 3, 2018 The Revivalists will take to the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headliner stage in Waterfront Park at 10:30 a.m. to close out a great two-day event that includes more music than ever before.

Celebrating over a decade as a band, the New Orleans-based septet scored a game-changing hit with “Wish I Knew You,” from their third album, Men Amongst Mountains. The single broke the Billboard chart record for most single-week spins ever at Alternative radio and spent nine weeks in the Billboard Hot 100.

“We are thrilled to have The Revivalists join the strong lineup of artists who have performed for us in San Diego over the years,” said Paul Huddle, Regional Director for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “They have been taking the music industry by storm and will no doubt rock the crowd of athletes, spectators and the rest of the community.”

The Revivalists are recognized as an extraordinary live band, having sold-out headlining tours in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and performed sets at such marquee festivals as Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits.

Adding a special wrinkle to the day, The Revivalists band member George Gekas will be participating in the half marathon. The bassist will be running in support of Shatterproof, an event level charity for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series that is dedicated to ending the devastation addiction causes families. Gekas encourages fans to both join him in participating in the Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon or contributing to the race's causes.

“Our focus has been to reinvest in our origin of making running fun with more music, runner support, and community engagement to our races than ever before,” Huddle added. “What could be a better way of doing this than by having The Revivalists bassist George Gekas running the half marathon for a great cause before the group takes to the stage to perform for the entire community and celebrate the accomplishments of the day.”

The musically themed Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon will begin at 6:15 a.m. on June 3. While taking in some of the best scenery of San Diego, participants will experience great runner support and community engagement as they move along to the music with live on-course bands, all new mile-markers that include speakers and race pacers who will be running with mobile speaker packs.

Taking runners through San Diego’s most iconic neighborhoods, the races take off from the historic start line at Balboa Park and travel through Hillcrest, North Park and Normal Heights before the Marathon breaks from the Half Marathon just past mile 8. The route also runs through Mission Hills, Old Town and Mission Bay Park before both the Marathon and Half Marathon finish downtown at Waterfront Park where they will be greeted by The Revivalists at the finish line festival.

Race weekend kicks off with a Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, June 1 from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the San Diego Convention Center Halls D &F. The expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition and training.
