First Person Race Day Filming Will Bring a Digital Simulation of the Course to Treadmill Runners Around the World, All at Their Own Pace
Hopkinton, MA (August 10th, 2018) Outside Interactive, a Hopkinton, MA based developer of forward motion video technology for indoor exercising, today announced it is partnering with The Niagara Falls International Marathon to create a simulated race-day experience of the 2018 Niagara Falls Great Canadian-American 5K Challenge. This simulation will enable runners to enjoy and train on the famous course virtually prior to race day, and even participate remotely and officially in future races, no matter where they are in the world, all from a treadmill, using an iPad® or Android® tablet.
“This is our very first collaboration with a race outside the US and its territories, stated Gary McNamee, Outside Interactive’s President and Founder. “We look forward to giving runners the chance to run along the beautiful Niagara River and finish at the brink of the majestic Niagara Falls, in their living room or health club, no raincoat required!”
“The new directing team of the Niagara Falls International Marathon prides itself on bringing innovative, creative offerings to its runners,” stated Diane Chesla, Co-Race Director for the Niagara Falls International Marathon. “When researching into a virtual race offering, we came across Outside Interactive and their simulated race technology. When we realized runners could not only take part in our event from anywhere in the world, but also SEE the course at their exact pace, even experiencing breathtaking views of Niagara Falls, the decision was a no brainer. What better way to promote our event, our sponsors and the beautiful Niagara area in a whole new way.”
Footage is shot from a runner’s perspective to produce a high-definition video that allows viewers to interactively run the simulated race course with their iPad® or Android® tablet, with cheering spectators lining the roads, even breaking the finisher’s tape, when inclement weather, travel, or deployment prevent being on the course itself.
Using its state-of-the-art cameras, filming, and editing techniques, the HD virtual-course videos, shot from the runner’s point of view, are made interactive to the runner’s pace through its use with Outside Interactive’s free downloadable app called “Virtual Runner,” available for Windows®, iPad® and Android® platforms.
